What people share after attending

NR

Nurul Rashidah

George Town, Penang

"I went into the single workshop not quite sure what to expect — I thought it might be another lecture on budgeting. It was nothing like that. Mei-Ling helped us see patterns we had not noticed, and by the end of the morning I had set up one small automatic transfer and named a jar for something I had been putting off saving for. That was three months ago and I am still using the tracker."

"The Steady Savings Programme took six weeks and I found the third and fourth sessions hardest — they asked you to look honestly at where you had not followed through. But that was the most useful part. The facilitators never made me feel bad about it, just curious about what was getting in the way. I do not think I would have stayed with it in a bigger group."

"The Habit Toolkit on its own has been worth it. I am not always active in the community but I read through the posts and that is enough — it is reassuring to see others navigating the same things. The habit cards sit on my desk and I go through one most weeks."

"I want to be honest — I missed one session of the programme and found it a bit hard to catch up the following week. But Siti was helpful about it and I was able to get the materials. The certificate at the end felt genuinely meaningful because the six weeks were not always easy. I saved more in those weeks than in the previous three months."

"I am a teacher and I attend a lot of professional development. Sumora was different because the whole room was safe to speak honestly. When I said I had been avoiding looking at my bank app for months, nobody reacted — and then it turned out most of the group felt the same way. That room made more difference than any content."

"I bought the Toolkit and Community for my daughter and myself to go through together. The habit cards gave us something to talk about over dinner — small habits she is building now while she is still in her 20s. The community is polite and practical. Good quality materials overall."

Participant journeys in depth

Story 01

From "I'll save what's left" to a named jar by month-end

Nurul, 34 — government employee, George Town

The challenge

Nurul had intended to save for years but always found the money spent before she got around to it. Budgeting spreadsheets felt like homework she kept putting off.

What she did

After the single workshop, she set up a RM 150 automatic set-aside each payday into a named jar for a holiday with her niece. She used the one-page weekly tracker to notice when spending crept up.

Three months later

She had RM 450 in the jar, which was enough to plan the trip. More importantly, the habit had stayed: she set up a second jar for a laptop after the first one reached its goal.

"I did not need to track perfectly — I just needed to start somewhere."

Story 02

Six weeks, honest reflection, and a different way of seeing the month

Zulaikha, 29 — HR coordinator, Penang

The challenge

Zulaikha had been meaning to start saving seriously since her promotion two years earlier. Income had increased but so had spending. She felt stuck in a pattern she could not quite name.

What she did

She enrolled in the Steady Savings Programme and worked through all six sessions. The programme's fourth week — on friction points — was the hardest, but she completed the reflection exercises honestly.

Programme completion

By the final session she had built a habit of reviewing her week-end balance without anxiety. She saved more in the six weeks of the programme than in the preceding quarter.

"The certificate meant something because the six weeks were real."
